Application Instructions
Environmental Considerations
The substrate should have a minimum temperature of 10 °C and a maximum humidity of 4 % when measured at a depth of 25 mm. The material should ideally be stored at a temperature of 20 °C prior to use.
Preparation
As with all systems the degree of preparation will determine the effectiveness of the product. Surfaces must be free from laitence, loose dust, dirt and debris. All contaminates should be removed by mechanical abrasion, preferably light grit blasting. New concrete should be at least 28 days old. Any damage to substrate or incorrect falls should be rectified using for example,RJR Epoxy Mortar.
Mixing
Primer – Add the Hydrocote 500 primer hardener unit to the contents of the Hydrocote 500 primer base unit. Mix thoroughly with a slow speed electric drill and suitable paddle, allowing to stand for 10 minutes before application.
Topping – Thoroughly mix the unit of the Hydrocote 500SL base with a slow speed electric stirrer to disperse colour pigment. When this has been achieved add one unit of Hydrocote 500SL hardener and again mix thoroughly.
Application
Primer – Apply Hydrocote 500 primer by brush or roller and allow to cure overnight at a temperature of 15 °C to 25 °C.
Topping – Pour out the mixed Hydrocote 500SL topping and use a serrated trowel to spread the topping at the desired thickness. After 10 to 15 minutes roll the surface thoroughly with a spiked (pin) roller to release any air bubbles from within the topping. Do not roll onto partially set areas as the uniformity of appearance may be impaired.
Health and Safety
Refer to the Hydrocote 500SL Health and Safety Data Sheet before using the product. It is advisable to wear impervious gloves when handling or applying Hydrocote 500SL. Any splashes on the skin must be immediately removed by washing with soap and warm water. Do not use solvents for this purpose.
Ensure adequate ventilation is available at all times, and avoid breathing vapour. Although the product is solvent free and has low odour properties the use of respirators in confined spaces is recommended.
It is the purchasers responsibility to ensure that the materials are stored and handled within the meaning of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
